Thakur Gulab Singh, Public Works Minister inspected the on-going construction work of Sanjauli-Dhalli by-pass, besides, minutely taking stock of various aspects and stages of other allied works of the by-pass.
The Minister informed that the double-lane work on Sanjauli-Dhalli bypass has almost neared its completion barring metalling of its tail end and drainage work of about 1.5 km stretch. He said that Rs. 12.25 crore had been spent till now out of the total allocation of Rs. 14.60 crore. He directed the departmental officers to complete the work by 30th June invariably, besides, developing potential parking points on the by-pass.
Shri Thakur, reiterating the commitment of Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister to develop Shimla as the best tourist destination in the country, said that the construction and maintenance of the roads in its sub-urban areas were being accorded top-priority and all parking spots were being identified for development in a time-frame manner. He said that the construction of this bypass would mitigate traffic congestion as well as traffic hazards in the town.
Later, the Minister also took a visitation round of Kufri by-pass and directed the PWD officers to speed up the work on this Rs. 6.77 crore by-pass out of which Rs. 1.77 crore had already been spent. He called upon the concerned officers to specifically adhere to the norms of quality work of the roads in and around this tourist town of global fame, adding that decorative plants be planted alongside all the roads.
He said that a sum of Rs. 2.5 crore was being spent on the development and tarring work of Mashobra Junction–Galu road, in addition to building crash barriers on an accident-prone stretch of 600 metre to ensure safety and protection to the road users.
Shri Tarsem Bharati, Chairman, H.P. SC/ST Morcha, Shri Balram Sharma, Secretary, PWD, Shri Rajpal Singh, E-in-C, Shri R.C. Gupta, C.E., (South), Shri K.K. Kampani, Chief Engineer, NH and other senior officers of PWD Department were present on the occasion.
